Bauxite is complex material chemically. This bauxite is calcined (heated to very high temperatures). When calcined bauxite becomes a refractory material, used with a refractory cement and other refractory sands or powders. Refractories are used in making anything that requires processing at high temperatures like ceramics in kilns, high temperature furnace linings for refining ores for metals, crucibles that hold molten metals, and any container, liner, or other shape needed for the myriad of products whose utilities need high, very high, or very very high temperatures to attain their properties.
When mined, raw bauxite is a clay-like material.
In the ceramic arts this would be considered a very coarse refractory. It could be used as a refractory aggregate in making kiln components and repairing or making kilns. It could also be used in clay bodies as a coarse grog to change properties of the clay body or just for aesthetics to impart rough texture with varying color specks. It contains light and dark particles varying in size and shape. When kneaded into wet clay It gives texture or "tooth" to a clay body and also "opens" up a clay allowing thorough drying, thicker walls, faster temperature rise when firing, and lessens the chance for a piece exploding during firing. It helps with thermal shock. It "aerates" a clay so that pots when thrown (for example) will have increased strength and stand up better when throwing. It reduces shrinkage and warping. The coarser grogs allow for thicker walls.

Bauxite is used for many things. The Wikipedia article { https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bauxite } summarizes it's uses. Some excerpts:
"....is a sedimentary rock with a relatively high aluminium content. It is the world's main source of aluminium. Bauxite consists mostly of the aluminium minerals gibbsite, boehmite and diaspore, mixed with the two iron oxides goethite and haematite, the aluminium clay mineral kaolinite and small amounts of anatase and ilmenite.....
Numerous classification schemes have been proposed for bauxite....[since formation conditions make complex compositions]....
....lateritic bauxites (silicate bauxites) [differ]....
....from karst bauxite ores (carbonate bauxites)...
....approximately 70% to 80% of the world's dry bauxite production is processed first into alumina and then into aluminium by electrolysis.
Bauxite rocks are typically classified according to their intended commercial application:
--metallurgical,
--abrasive,
--cement,
--chemical,
--refractory"

In the arts, bauxite can be used in ceramics (see above), and as a filler/strengthener/colorant in cements and resins for castings. and in pozzolan cement mixes for the same reasons. Used in cement mixes it would be considered a coarse sand aggregate.
Other aggregates we carry that would be in the same extra coarse class are olivine, garnet, aluminum oxide, and river sand, here are links to them (we also have those materials in finer mesh sizes):
