Note: If you are a beginner wanting to try the Forton MG casting system, we have 2 of the 4 components. Please see the listing for the FGR-95, which has more information and links that will help you gain some solid knowledge, before actually trying it out.

This is the water based polymer emulsion (50% solids) of the Forton MG casting system which has 4 components. The VF-812 polymer increases the physical properties of alpha gypsum cement. VF-812 reduces permeability, making it possible for castings to be used outside, just as concrete is (the finished casting must be sealed, however). Even the hardest gypsum cements and especially plasters will disintegrate in outdoor use.
It is designed to be used with alpha gypsum cements. Most gypsum cements, like hydrostone are not "alpha". Examples of alpha gypsum cements are Hydrocal FGR 95 from USG Corp, and Densite HL from Georgia Pacific. We carry FGR 95.
There is also a Forton polymer that is similar to VF-812, called VF-774 that is used mainly for GFRC (Glass fiber reinforced concrete) portland cement concrete products, as opposed to a the VR-812 product that is meant for gypsum cement. {Wikipedia: "GFRC is a type of fiber-reinforced concrete. The product is also known as glassfibre reinforced concrete or GRC in British English. Glass fiber concretes are mainly used in exterior building façade panels and as architectural precast concrete.}
The 3rd part of the Forton system is a melamine resin that is water soluble and the 4th is a hardner, which is nothing special and can be found at other suppliers, ammonium chloride. It balances the pH so the VF-812 and the melamine will cure properly ("cross-link").
The melamine has a fairly short shelf life. I've bought it several times and always forget to put it in a tightly sealed container refrigerated. It will harden on its own in several months. We don't currently stock it. There are links to suppliers below.
Currently, the VF-812 polymer is made and sold by Engineered Polymer Solutions & Color Corporation of America ("EPSCCA").
Their website and the VF-812 page is here (along with further links) { https://www.epscca.com/en/products/resins/forton-vf-812/ } :
"FORTON® VF 812 is a water based, all acrylic, self cross-linking, co-polymer emulsion which is the basis of the Forton Modified Gypsum system. It can be be used in a wide range of architectural and sculptural applications and when combined with specific alpha hemi-hydrate gypsums and dry melamine resin, Forton® VF-812 at proper loadings, results in a product suitable for interior and exterior use.
Quick facts:
Reduction of water permeability.
Lightweight pieces that are strong and water-resistant.
Improves work ability, surface hardness, and chip resistance.
Wide variety of surface finishes.
Quick demolding times.
Non-toxic, water-based material.
Class I, UBC Building Code with a low smoke rating"

Here is a supplier for the complete Forton MG ingredients and their instructions for how to mix and use it { https://www.smooth-on.com/products/forton-fmg/ }.
And here is one more supplier (there are others) for the complete system and their instructions { https://pinkhouse.com/forton }.

The cost in my cart seems too high, what can I do?

This problem usually occurs with multiple items. We have free shipping on many of our items. In your cart items will have the sum of all embedded shipping costs. If you place an order for 3 or more "FreeShip" items, you will receive a "rebate" for the excess shipping. The more items you have the greater the shipping refund will be. You can also message us to ask what the total cost of your order will be when excess shipping is refunded before you purchase.
Or, if you see "Request a Custom Order" or "Message Seller", you can request a custom order and your items will be put in a custom listing with the correct shipping. You would purchase it like any other listing.
