In addition to this B-72, we also carry B-44 but no longer carry B-48N, and B-67.
Here is a CAMEO chart which has comparative information on a number of Paraloid resins; it's very handy and I refer to it (and the one below it) a lot:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&ved=0ahUKEwiJtruc8vvRAhVS8GMKHS50Aa8QFgg1MAQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fcameo.mfa.org%2Fimages%2F1%2F12%2FDownload_file_539.pdf&usg=AFQjCNEDZMFUdNC74CLl54yxn0YGgHyA2Q
This is another very handy chart which gives the solubility of 10 Paraloid resins in various solvents (alcohols, esters, glycols, hydrocarbons, and ketones):
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0ahUKEwir3reHofzRAhVQ42MKHRCABEcQFggaMAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.talasonline.com%2Fimages%2FPDF%2FProductInformation%2Fparaloid_solvent_guide.pdf&usg=AFQjCNFZaoxaZHuGUvtKVfJSJ2_-NnoBLg&bvm=bv.146094739,d.cGc
Referring to the above charts we find that B-72 is a relatively soft resin (10-11 KHN) and that it can be incorporated in many formulas with other resins (its compatibility is good), that it's glass transition temperature is the lowest of the Paraloid resins I have (Tg = 104F, the temperature at which it turns from a hard polymer to a rubbery polymer), and also that its solubility in toluene, acetone, and MEK is good, with low viscosity in a 40% solids solution.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
B-72 is a Paraloid thermoplastic acrylic copolymer (methyl methacrylate and butyl acrylate) that can be easily dissolved in solvents to make a very high quality, transparent, non-reactive adhesive and coating for museum quality ceramics or glass, and other materials. It's also used commercially on a larger scale as a coating. We have B-72, B-44, B-48N, and B-67. They differ in the specific polymer(s) used to make them, their solubility in specific solvents, and in their physical properties. There is a lot of information on the internet about B-72, the most widely known Paraloid resin. Some links are here:
A Wiki article here:

A usage and properties data sheet on B-72 by Dow, the manufacturer:
http://www.dow.com/en-us/markets-and-solutions/products/PARALOIDB/PARALOIDB72100percent
Dow says uses for B-72 include:
"Art conservation and preservation
Clear coatings for wood
Applications not tolerant of strong solvents
Flexographic printing inks
Gravure plastic coatings
White and metallic aerosols
Other film-forming materials, such as vinyls, cellulosics, chlorinated rubbers, and silicones
Advantages:
Low reactivity with sensitive phosphorescent and luminescent pigments
Superior stability and durability
High tolerance for ethanol
Clear, coherent film formation
Excellent non-yellowing characteristics
Highly compatible with other film-forming materials....
Paraloid B-72 is a durable and non-yellowing acrylic polymer used for consolidating wall paintings (1-5%), fragile wood (5-20%), etc. It may be used as a fixative when diluted with a solvent to secure markings on artifacts and as an adhesive (50%+) for a variety of substrates.....Many museums are currently choosing Paraloid B-72 lacquer over cellulose nitrate lacquers (because of curling, flaking and instability problems) to catalog and label objects in their collections. the new lacquer is 25% solution by weight of Paraloid B-72 in acetone"
A supplier says this about B-72:
(formerly known as Acryloid B-72) - an Ethyl Methacrylate copolymer is an excellent general purpose resin. It can be applied in either clear or pigmented coatings by a variety of application methods and can be air-dried or baked. Paraloid B-72 has a very low reactivity with sensitive pigments. It is durable and non-yellowing and is compatible with other film forming materials such as vinyl cellulosics, chlorinated rubbers, and silicones and can be used in combination with them to produce coatings with a wide variety of characteristics with emphasis on stability and transparency.
Paraloid B-72 is unique in possessing a high tolerance for ethanol. This property allows its use in applications where strong solvents cannot be tolerated. The alcohol dispersions may be cloudy or milky; however, clear, coherent films are formed."
Another supplier gives an overview of mixing proportions for various applications:
Paraloid B-72 is a copolymer of ethyl methacrylate and methyl acrylate supplied in 100% resin pellets which are soluble in acetone, toluene, and xylene. An excellent general purpose resin/adhesive, it can be applied in either clear or pigmented coatings by a variety of application methods and can be air dried or baked. Paraloid B-72 has a very low reactivity with sensitive pigments, and is durable and non-yellowing. Use in very dilute (5%) concentrations to consolidate flaking glazes or decayed surfaces: use in heavier concentration (20%) to form adhesive. This material has also been used as an underlining for numbering, a varnish for paintings and a gap filler. The product is reversible with solvents.

The Cameo Materials Database is an electronic database that compiles, defines, and disseminates technical information on the distinct collection of terms, materials, and techniques used in the fields of art conservation and historic preservation."

The cost in my cart seems too high, what can I do?

This problem usually occurs with multiple items. We have free shipping on many of our items. In your cart items will have the sum of all embedded shipping costs. If you place an order for 3 or more "FreeShip" items, you will receive a "rebate" for the excess shipping. The more items you have the greater the shipping refund will be. You can also message us to ask what the total cost of your order will be when excess shipping is refunded before you purchase.
Or, if you see "Request a Custom Order" or "Message Seller", you can request a custom order and your items will be put in a custom listing with the correct shipping. You would purchase it like any other listing.
