Please note this is a raw pigment intended to be dispersed into a liquid medium to make paints. Our raw pigments are not meant for use in cosmetics and are not cosmetic grade. Certain pigments disperse more easily than others in certain liquid mediums. For those difficult to disperse into a liquid of your choice, they will need to be ground by a muller or a mortar and pestle into the medium.

Safety note: Handle all dry pigments with care. Work slowly to avoid generating airborne dust and wear a dust mask for extra protection. Also avoid getting the dust all over your hands. Latex gloves are good at providing skin protection without "getting in the way".

This is a black pigment that's not as black as lamp black (carbon black), or black iron oxide. It's described as a warmer black that painters prefer for certain subjects. It also has the more general name of "bone char". It's more expensive than carbon black and a lot more expensive than black iron oxide.
The supplier says this:
"This warm, black pigment is a general purpose pigment and can be used as a coloring agent for a wide variety of media including paints, inks and plastics. Contains: Calcium phosphate." The Wiki article is here (along with a quote):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone_char
"Bone char is a porous, black, granular material produced by charring animal bones. Its composition varies depending on how it is made; however, it consists mainly of tricalcium phosphate 57–80%, calcium carbonate 6–10% and activated carbon 7–10%.....Ivory black was formerly made by grinding charred ivory in oil. Today ivory black is considered a synonym for bone black. Actual ivory is no longer used because of the expense and because animals who are natural sources of ivory are subject to international control as endangered species. Bone black and ivory black are artists' pigments which are in use since historic times by painters such as Rembrandt and Velázquez but also more recently by Manet or Picasso. The black dresses and high hats of the gentlemen in Manet's Music in the Tuileries are painted in ivory black."
It's also used in filtration like activated charcoal although bone chars usually have lower surface areas than activated carbon but has higher adsorptive capacities for certain metals. It's used in sugar refining and water purification.-
