A small quantity for those who want to try it without purchasing a pint or quart. We have both the raw and boiled linseed oil. This listing is for the raw. Volume-wise this is mainly used as a wood finish. It has a higher viscosity than walnut oil. Another use is in fine art painting, which uses several types of semi-polymerized linseed oil.
The manufacturer sells this type as "raw", meaning it has no added driers or heating applied. Driers are chemical catalysts which hasten the drying (curing) of the oil. The other type is "boiled" which does have driers and has been heated. The raw may take several days (depending on temperature and humidity) to polymerize, giving it more time to soak into the wood The boiled will polymerize in a matter of hours (2 to 10 perhaps, depending on ambient temperature and humidity. If you don't have the time to wait a couple days for your project's finish to dry, you should go with the boiled, keeping in mind it will not have much time to soak in (rubbing it in with a linseed oil dampened rag will help it to penetrate deeper). Heat in general does promote cross-linking of polymers. Linseed oil is probably the least expensive (and common) of the "drying" oils. It is made from the seeds of the Flax plant.
There's a Wikipedia article on it here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linseed_oil
That article lists several other uses for linseed oil, one of them being as a nutritional supplement. This particular listing is not food grade!
Linseed oil is one of several natural polymers which "dry" (actually polymerize like a man-made plastic). Linseed oil, Tung oil, and Walnut oil are other drying oils.-

The cost in my cart seems too high, what can I do?

This problem usually occurs with multiple items. We have free shipping on many of our items. In your cart items will have the sum of all embedded shipping costs. If you place an order for 3 or more "FreeShip" items, you will receive a "rebate" for the excess shipping. The more items you have the greater the shipping refund will be. You can also message us to ask what the total cost of your order will be when excess shipping is refunded before you purchase.
Or, if you see "Request a Custom Order" or "Message Seller", you can request a custom order and your items will be put in a custom listing with the correct shipping. You would purchase it like any other listing.
