This 1/2" is the longest nylon fiber we currently have listed (we do have some 3/4" that's not yet listed; if you'd like some of it send us a message). We ordered a new batch of this 1/2", and it is a whiter color that the last batch which is slightly yellowish shown in the picture. We also have (we also keep very short polypropylene and rayon fibers, along with glass fibers). This makes a good reinforcement material for plaster, epoxy, gypsum cements, portland cement, almost any casting material to increase tensile and flexural strength. In addition, polymer fibers like these are ideal for increasing green strength in clay bodies. When the clay is fired the nylon will burn out. This also comes in a shorter fiber length of 1/8" (see the link at the top). It is much longer than the fibers in flocking (which we also carry).
It's similar in some ways to cotton fiber in that it is not "stiff" like glass or carbon fiber. It also doesn't impart thixotropic properties to a mixture and it's pretty user friendly like cotton, it won't itch if you get it on your skin and the risk of inhaling it is less than glass fiber, fumed silica thickener (which is a thixotropic additive), or others. Those materials get airborne easily and you must consider safety measures like doing the mixing outdoors upwind, or wearing good quality dust masks. If this is added to a resin, it will increase tensile strength but it is best used with epoxy because of epoxy's effectiveness as a glue. Because of the increase in length over the 1/8th inch nylon, this will work best in resins if you thicken them with a little Cab-O-Sil fumed silica. The longer fibers tend to bend and "pop up" in a low viscosity resin. Used with plaster or gypsum cement that's not a problem. At 1/2 of an inch long, these fibers are much longer than cotton or rayon flocking and the type of glass fiber known as "milled glass fiber".-

This problem usually occurs with multiple items. We have free shipping on many of our items. In your cart items will have the sum of all embedded shipping costs. If you place an order for 3 or more "FreeShip" items, you will receive a "rebate" for the excess shipping. The more items you have the greater the shipping refund will be. You can also message us to ask what the total cost of your order will be when excess shipping is refunded before you purchase.
Or, if you see "Request a Custom Order" or "Message Seller", you can request a custom order and your items will be put in a custom listing with the correct shipping. You would purchase it like any other listing.
