Please be aware that this is not a tightly graded sand. It is also inexpensive and will contain specks of impurities. You can buy a 50 lb bag of this from a building supply store like Home Depot for probably less than $20.
We carry this in 3 mesh sizes: this 70-24 coarse mesh, a 70 mesh, and a 120 mesh. Use the link just above to see all of them.
Coarse Silica Sand is similar to Coarse River Sand in that it has a broad particle size distribution. The "The minerals of which the composition is comprised between Albite and Anorthite are known as the plagioclase feldspars, while those comprised between Albite and Orthoclase are called the alkali feldspars due to the presence of alkali metals sodium and potassium. The alkali feldspars are of particular interest in terms of industrial use of feldspars. Amongst the numerous rocks in which they are present, feldspars are particularly abundant in igneous rocks like granite, which contains up to 50% or 70% of alkaline feldspar. The "70-24 Mesh" in the title is my attempt to compare it relative to the 70 mesh silica sand we have and the 35-24 mesh size range materials that we have like fused silica, kyanite, aluminum oxide. There is no mesh size for this coarse silica sand on the bag, so the The minerals of which the composition is comprised between Albite and Anorthite are known as the plagioclase feldspars, while those comprised between Albite and Orthoclase are called the alkali feldspars due to the presence of alkali metals sodium and potassium. The alkali feldspars are of particular interest in terms of industrial use of feldspars. Amongst the numerous rocks in which they are present, feldspars are particularly abundant in igneous rocks like granite, which contains up to 50% or 70% of alkaline feldspar. is an approximation. It has nice block shaped particles but is still free flowing. Its color is slightly yellowish.
It can be used for several things: in ceramics to a clay body for texture or to "open" up the body, as an additive to paint to give a very sandy textured surface, as a filler in liquid resins like epoxy, as an inexpensive sand blasting media, as an aggregate with light colored concrete and more. If you try this and like it, an advantage to this particle size is that you can buy this same mesh size at building suppliers like Home Depot in 50 lb bags for a much lower cost per unit weight than what we sell.

Silica sand makes a good aggregate for art and craft items made of "concrete" (which is sometimes mistakenly called "cement"- cement is one ingredient along with aggregates and water used to make concrete). Some of its advantages are it's not as expensive as Fused Silica or some of the other exotic aggregates and it's a light color which you will need if you're making a light colored concrete (you will need to use white portland cement rather than the standard gray also). It will give you a little more hardness and strength than plain old river sand because it's cleaner and purer. You could also use a blend of Silica Sand with Fused Silica to get some of the advantages of both. That, and some metakaolin, a little CSA cement (it's darker), or another pozzolan (but not the darker Silica Fume or Fly Ash), and perhaps some super plasticizer like "super sealz" might all be worth trying.
A lighter colored concrete means you can more easily make it any color you want by adding pigments. Standard concrete made of standard gray portland cement will require higher concentrations of pigments and you'll be limited to dark colors. If you start with a light colored concrete it's much easier to get interesting colors, and less expensive because you don't need such a high concentration of pigment.
Keep in mind the final color you get with concrete depends on many factors, like the color of the cement and any additives you use to achieve "pozzolan" concrete. How the finished surface is treated is another. If your finished surface is 'up', it can be troweled, it can be brushed and/or washed when semi-set, it can be acid washed, it can be ground and polished, and so on. If your finished surface is 'down' (the bottom of a mold for a cast concrete object) the choices are a little more limited. It mainly boils down to whether you have exposed aggregate or not, and what color the cementitious part of your mix is along with the color of any pozzolans or pigments you add.

There are many different aggregate materials used with high performance ("pozzolan") concrete. They can be the same aggregates used for regular concrete. The countertop and decorative flooring industry uses a great variety of aggregates, some very exotic, especially when the surface is ground and polished with diamond, when exposes the internal aggregates used.
Other aggregates that our shop carries would be classified as "sand", not "gravel". They are listed in scattered locations, so to find them use the link at the top of this page. Others are not necessarily labeled 'sand' and would be used for their darker or lighter colors: Granular Magnetite, Fused Silica, Kyanite, and Crushed Glass.
For coloring concrete, special pigments are often used that are made to withstand the alkaline nature of concrete. You can use ordinary pigments, but you should test them, they may change color when added. The iron oxide pigments like black, red, yellow, or brown iron oxide will work better that many others.
Other materials related to concrete that we carry are additives like "super sealz", and "Metakaolin", can be found by doing a shop search on "Cement", "Colloidal", "Thixo", "Kaolin", and "Calcium": Calcium Chloride is a cement accelerator, Calcium Sulfate Dihydrate (raw gypsum) is a pozzolan, and "calcium aluminate cement" is another type of cement (like portland) that sets fast and is often used as an accelerator in standard cements.-

Reviews

The product itself is great. It is pure silica sand, consistent in grain size and perfect for use in my carnivorous plant substrates. That being said, I do find the price to be quite high for such a small quantity. I think double the quantities for the prices listed would be more reasonable. That being said, the other 3 products I purchased in the same order are very well priced for the quantity received, and high quality. Please consider offering a larger silica sand package! I'd buy it for sure!

Great packaging, and fast shipping! thank you

Very well packed, nice looking sand. Would be cool to see them offering tighter ranges on the mesh sizes for he sands.

EXCELLENT AND FAST SHIPPING! THANKS

The item is just as described, packaged well, and just what we needed! It was shipped quickly, too!
