This 1/8" long glass fiber falls into the category of a "milled" fiber. Usually 1/16" and 1/8" long glass fibers are not chopped by a blade but are shortened by being milled or broken up in a hammermill. The 1/8" refers to the hole sizes in the mill, so there may be 1/8" and shorter fibers included. Milled glass fibers can have a thixotropic thickening effect on liquid resins in addition to being a reinforcement. They mix well and are very suitable for reinforcing any liquid resin mixes (epoxy, urethane, or polyester). We also have nylon, polyethylene, and rayon synthetic fibers, all of which are much more flexible than glass fibers. Both glass and carbon fiber give maximum rigidity to a finished product. Glass is much heavier than carbon fiber, but less expensive. This type of fiber can be used in water based gypsum cement but not concrete. For the high alkalinity of concrete you need a type "AR" (Alkali Resistant). Since the type of milled fiber is not given by the supplier, it must default to the most common form, Type "E".
Usually these short fibers are mixed with resin until the mix is like a paste or thin putty, then applied to bends in your piece (as fillets) or as patches. Also used anywhere you need to fill a gap in a cloth layup or make a bead. You put the paste in a caulking gun tube or use plastic bags that are folded as pastry chiefs do to make lines and dots in frosting on a cake (the frosting exits a small cut in one of the corners of the folded bag).
Both glass and carbon fiber give maximum rigidity to a finished product. Carbon (or graphite as it's also called) is used where lightness and rigidity are important.

The cost in my cart seems too high, what can I do?

This problem usually occurs with multiple items. We have free shipping on many of our items. In your cart items will have the sum of all embedded shipping costs. If you place an order for 3 or more "FreeShip" items, you will receive a "rebate" for the excess shipping. The more items you have the greater the shipping refund will be. You can also message us to ask what the total cost of your order will be when excess shipping is refunded before you purchase.
Or, if you see "Request a Custom Order" or "Message Seller", you can request a custom order and your items will be put in a custom listing with the correct shipping. You would purchase it like any other listing.
